One of my public sector clients are currently looking for a UNIX Systems Administrator.

They are looking for a UNIX Systems Administrator to join them on a hybrid basis with travel to site in Bristol 1-2 days per week.

This engagement will run on for an initial 6-month contract - this does have a view to extend beyond this date.

They are interested in UNIX Systems Administrators with experience of working in an Agile environment amongst multi-disciplinary teams. Past experience of working within the public sector would be ideal, but not necessary.


Requirements:


  • Experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Experience managing Oracle Linux 7.9 and 8.0
  • Have experience of Bash and other scripting languages
  • Understand SSH configuration
  • Have YUM/DNF configuration experience
  • Good knowledge of Linux networking
  • Understand Firewall configuration for Linux
  • Active Security Clearance (SC)

Responsibilities:


  • Lead, coach and develop UNIX Administrators where necessary to improve performance and meet objectives. Plan and organise workload to optimise performance.
  • Possess sufficiently deep and wide specialist technical skills to assess and direct the technical direction of the infrastructure on which the systems are run.
  • Provide 2nd line infrastructure support that has been escalated from the 1st line service desk
  • Proactively define and analyse the root causes of specific UNIX infrastructure problems and implement the appropriate solutions to ensure rapid recovery
  • Ensure documentation regarding server builds, network configuration, fixes, procedures and diagrams are up to date and completed in accordance with project procedures
