Salary - Up to £40,000 depending on experience

Due to continual growth and onboarding of multiple new brands at Gardiner Bros/Footsure we are looking to expand our Buying & Merchandising Department.

We are looking for a Senior Merchandisers/Buyer to join our team taking full responsibility of our Footsure team as well as a selection of key brands/suppliers within it.

Working with the existing team to maximise the Gross Margin Profit and sell through of all our safety & workwear/PPE brands, such as Caterpillar, Timberland Pro, Amblers Safety, Dickies, Puma, Helly Hansen & Magnum just to name a few.

You will be responsible for the development of the team as well as the growth and profitability of these brands across out multichannel business.

What are we looking for in a Senior Merchandiser/Buyer?


We are looking for someone who has experience of working in a buying or merchandising department either as a Buyer/Merchandiser or someone already in a senior position looking to build upon their existing skills & knowledge.


You will fully understand forecasting and seasonal variances, profitability, stock turn and impact of clearance activity along with the ability to analyse and understand large amounts of product related data.

Ability to report back at senior level all aspects of stock and sales/margin information.


As well as this we are looking for a confident individual with great verbal and written communication skills, we have a great team spirit in the current team, and everyone is willing to support each other when required.


Experience working within footwear, apparel, retail or the distribution industry would be great, however full training of how to be the best in the industry will be provided.


If you have or are working towards your CIPS this would also be a bonus but not a necessity at all.


What will the Senior Merchandiser's role entail?


As well as having your own portfolio of suppliers to manage you will be overlooking the buyers and their teams that also report into you.


With an overall responsibility to:

  • Drive sales, stock turn, profit, availability and mark downs through planning and delivering commercial ranges.
  • Review & report weekly your stock & sales position and recommendations as required.
  • Regular reviews of the forecasts and reporting back on progress along with any actions required to achieve the forecasts.
  • Play a pivotal role supporting the Purchasing Director in key departmental, and cross department tasks.
  • Working with suppliers/brands create and propose commercial ranges suitable for the customer base, covering costings and profitability and ensure timescales are achieved in bringing product to market.
  • Review sales top and bottom sellers to manage stocks, repeat buys, propose markdowns and help plan range reviews.
  • Forecast trends and plan stock levels accordingly
  • Manage pricing, costs and setting budgets
  • Maintain good communication with the supply base, identifying any issues and ensuring they are effectively communicated to the team to be resolved and ensure order deadlines are maintained and achieved.
  • Visiting or meeting suppliers and customers and attending trade shows as required
  • Work with online teams to maximise sales and profits across key online customers
  • Work with marketing teams to promote brands across all platforms
  • Develop and grow team members to create an efficient succession plan.
