The Southport and Ormskirk Medical Examiner Service, based at Southport Hospital, are very excited to be extending our service and we are looking for a Medical Examiner Officer to play a key role in our ongoing development.

The Medical Examiner Service is fundamental to supporting the bereaved, ensuring consistency and accuracy in death certification and promoting continuous learning.

Our ME service was established in 2021 to provide independent scrutiny of the circumstances and causes of in-hospital and Queenscourt Hospice deaths to support families with empathy and understanding through this process.

We are now extending our service to include deaths that have occurred in the community.

To make this a success we are looking to recruit an additional Medical Examiner Officer (MEO) to join our existing team.

The MEO will work alongside our team of Medical Examiners and support them to deliver a professional and compassionate service.

The MEO will have a role in helping the ME to review the circumstances and causes of death and will be expected to work closely, yet independently from other services involved in the care of the patient.

The MEO will be central to providing an objective service to bereaved families that wish to raise concerns.
