Job Purpose-You will work in partnership with stakeholders to support the effective implementation of key operational activities underpinning the delivery of teaching across the School. A key deliverable of the role will be to support the coordination of the School's workforce planning cycle, incorporating academic workload management and teaching planning.

Focusing on data capture and manipulation as well as process mapping and improvements, you will work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues to develop, streamline and improve key teaching-related operational processes, including timetabling, course capacity and delivery planning as part of the teaching delivery cycle.

In pursuit of service excellence, you will contribute to several School, College, and University projects.
The role reports directly to the Teaching Resource & Planning Manager.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with and on behalf of the School's senior leadership team to deliver an internal teaching resource and planning service, with delegated responsibility for day-to-day operational activities. Assist in the planning and implementation of key workstreams to support academic workload allocation and workforce planning across the School and providing an effective end-to-end service ensuring compliance with University standards, policies, and procedures.
  • As part of the annual planning cycle, assist, and develop independently, key planning data to ensure academic staffing plans are robust, working in partnership with academic line managers.
  • As part of the School Teaching Resource and Planning Team, work alongside the team and stakeholder across the institution to deliver the annual timetabling of teaching events. Assist in developing models to ensure that individual course capacity loads are linked to the available capacity for the forthcoming academic year.
  • Support the Teaching Resource and Planning Manager in any activities related to the annual School teaching portfolio review, delivering related activities, including course and programmed approval processes.
  • Support any teaching-related data and compliance activities across the School, including UKVI data and compliance, HESA data management, and other teaching-related data processes.
  • Use initiative to seek opportunities for process improvements across learning and teaching operational processes within the School, and actively contribute to improvement projects as part of the College and broader University transformation agenda.
  • Using data analysis and insights expertise to enhance our current practices and decision-making in regards to teaching planning and delivery across a large and complex portfolio.
  • With a positive and proactive approach to problem solving and change management, independently seek out opportunities to contribute to a high performing and motivated professional services team to ensure an effective support provision across the Teaching Planning and Delivery Team.
  • Undertake other appropriate activities as required by the School's Senior Leadership Team's needs in teaching and resource planning.
  • Key contributor within the School's Professional Services team in our ambition to deliver service excellence.
  • Deputize for the Teaching Resource & Planning Manager as appropriate.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by Teaching Resource & Planning Manager.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge, Qualifications

Essential:


A1.Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher/Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

Or, ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post, having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles.

A2.Knowledge of service redesign and continuous improvement methodologies.


Desirable:

B1.Process Improvement or Project Management certification (Six Sigma/Lean/PRINCE2/APMP etc.).
B2.Professional or academic certification in data analytics or a related area
B3.Knowledge and understanding of the University structures, policy, practices and procedures.
B4.Knowledge and understanding of the HE sector
B5.Knowledge of the University systems, e.g. PIP, CMIS, MyCampus, Moodle, T4 software training.
