Salary:


Lecturer Grade F:
£37,474 to £41,155 per annum


Lecturer Grade G:
£43,414 to £51,805 per annum


Senior Lecturer:
£53,353 to £56,592 per annum

The Role


Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Statistics within the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics, with a flexible start date to be agreed.

The position is open to researchers working in Statistics, as well as in fields that are closely related.

We have many opportunities for statisticians to engage with researchers across a wide range of disciplines.

We are part of the Alan Turing Institute and are linked with the £30 million Newcastle-based National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD).

We are partners with the School of Computing in the development of a new MSc in Data Science and are heavily involved in the University development of Newcastle Helix, a £200 million project bringing together academia, the public sector, business, and industry on a new site in the heart of the city.

Our NU Data Centre for Doctoral Training has just admitted its first intake and will run until 2028.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertake independent original research in statistics, or a closely related field such as statistical data science or machine learning.
  • Publish refereed articles in journals of international standing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the school on research in statistics, or a closely related field such as statistical data science or machine learning.
  • Collaborate in applied research with colleagues from other schools.
  • Develop grantfunded research projects.
  • Supervise students taking the MSc in Data Science, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Undertake external professional activities that contribute to the development of methodology in statistics or a closely related field such as statistical data science or machine learning.
  • Undertake teaching in statistics as required.
  • Contribute to the life and work of the school in general and to the statistics section in particular.
  • Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School and the School Executive Board.
