An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Research and Development Team at Grimsby Hospital as a Clinical Trials Assistant.

The post is 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The post is temporary for 1 year from 1st April 2023 and will cease on 31st March 2024.


You will have good communications skills, a team orientated approach and the ability to plan and undertake work in an accurate, methodical and efficient manner.

A good eye for detail is essential, as are strong administrative and IT skills.

An understanding of the clinical trial process is desirable but not essential as training will be given, clinical practice and a familiarity with medical terminology would be advantageous.


The post holder will be an active member of the Research & Development team and will be required to professionally support registered staff in the delivery of their portfolio of research projects.

The post holder will have experience working face to face with patients and be trained in venepuncture.

They will also have general data and administrative duties within the team, and play a key role in all aspects of office and team administration support and data management.

They will contribute to safe efficient and effective study management and implementation of research protocols in the clinical research setting.

The post holder will contribute to the assessment of care and health care needs and provide advice and information as appropriate.


This role will involve working closely with all members of the Research & Development team and other members of the multidisciplinary team to increase patient recruitment into current trials and to maintain holistic support for all clinical trial participants, thus facilitating a high quality research service.


The post holder will be expected to interact with patients and their families in relation to the requirements of the clinical trials and be able to work without supervision in some areas.

As the team is based cross-site, although based in Grimsby there is an expectation that there will be regular travel to Scunthorpe

To assist in the evaluation of the patient eligibility, in liaison with other appropriate health care professionals for clinical trial entry, involving the coordination of pre-study tests, obtaining results/X- rays and arranging appropriate appointments as per clinical trials protocols

To assist the co-ordination of the patient's journey through the clinical trial protocol e.g. requisition and organisation of any necessary investigations, procurement of patient notes and x-rays.


Assisting and supporting the Research Nurses with the running of research projects such as portfolio research studies and commercial clinical trials.

The post-holder will be trained by the Research Nurses, and will contribute to safe, efficient and effective study management and implementation of research protocols in the research setting.


Working as a key part of the research team, the post holder will offer support to ensure patients are afforded a professional and caring service within the Trust.

They will be an active member of the Research & Development team, and will play a key role in all aspects of office and team administrative duties and data management in addition to clinical duties.


The post holder will be responsible for helping to set up research clinics as required, to ensure that all relevant patient files, appointment schedules and other stationery are available.

The post holder will be expected to welcome patients to the clinic, answer any queries, checking that identifying information is correct, making future appointments and paying patients their travel expenses.


The nature of this post requires the post holder to have a high level of organisation and professionalism, as well as strict adherence to the rules of confidentiality.
