Duties and Responsibilities Clinical To undertake Consultant led clinics and to provide support to other doctors and specialist nurses and to provide all aspect of dermatology including: o Minor skin surgery o Urgent and routine GP referrals o Advice and Guidance In conjunction with colleagues to provide specialist dermatology care To provide clinical assessment, investigation and management of patients referred to the service, working with other members of the team to determine the most appropriate method of assessment and treatment To be part of the multidisciplinary team and attend relevant meetings.

To develop a special interest and lead the department in delivering that specialist care Audit, Research and Professional Development To offer professional advice to the Clinical Director, Bridgewater Medical Director, Trust Board and partner agencies on areas of responsibility as required.

To take part in service planning and service development in conjunction with the Clinical Director in Dermatology, the Borough Director and Clinical Manager for dermatology, other Senior Clinicians and Managers to provide an efficient service for our patients.

To continue with his/her professional development and maintain good standing with the GMC, Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications) To constructively engage with appraisal and revalidation.


To be either on the Specialist Register for Dermatology or due to obtain their CCT within six month of date of interview.

To participate in identifying individual developmental needs through appraisal and professional development planning, including job planning.

To take part in appraisal and job planning of junior medical and nursing staff when required by the Clinical Director.

To be involved in the clinical management and administration of the Community dermatology service when required.


To take a lead role in implementation of national guidance and auditing with respect to a specialist area of interest and to compliment the development of the service.

To participate in your own departmental audits and supervise junior staff in audit. To encourage appropriate research within the Service supported by the Trust.

Training & Teaching To participate in the training of Nurses, Therapists, GPs and voluntary groups and other staff as appropriate.


To participate in medical and postgraduate training when required by the organisation To undertake all mandatory training as specified by the Trust.

To attend the weekly CPD session based at Broadgreen hospital (or online equivalent) To engage with mentoring either personally with a mentor or as a mentor to others.

The Trust will agree suitable mentoring programmes with the appointee.

Accountability and Review The Consultant dermatologist is responsible to the Clinical Director in Dermatology and accountable to Bridgewaters Medical Director and ultimately to the Trust Board.


Proposed Job Plan (up to 1.0 WTE this is negotiable) 3 out-patient clinics per week (one general dermatology, one skin cancer) 2 minor surgery session alternate weeks 0.25 sessions for MDT 2 session for direct patient administration 1 session for continuing professional development (Broadgreen Hospital) 1 session for teaching/audit /research/clinical management/non-clinical 1 potential further session to develop a special interest or for research (for those Consultants with an active research interest) Clinic templates are in accordance with the guidelines issued by the British Association of Dermatologists.

A typical clinic consists of 5 new patients, 10 follow up patients. There is no on-call commitment.

In the event that a less than full time consultant undertakes regular additional clinics, these clinics will be subsumed into the job plan, up to the Trusts maximum PA allowance (currently 12.) If work is performed outside the agreed job plan, consideration will be given to time off in lieu.


This post has up to 2.0 SPA which is outlined below: Core SPA time of 1.5 PAs per week for professional activities to support revalidation, personal appraisal, personal job planning, mandatory training, participation in consultant and governance meetings. Non-core SPA time (usually 0.5-1 PA - depending on agreed WTE) is objective based and offered after the purpose and content is agreed between the consultant and clinical director. It should align with Trust objectives and have evidence of output. This session may be used to develop your specialist interest.

SPA activity must be relevant to the Trust and Individuals needs, and must be agreed at the job planning session in line with the Trusts job planning policy (as updated.) Please see Full Job Description Attached
