As a Sheltered Housing Activity Coordinator, you will develop and lead on the successful implementation of an events programme for older people based at the Council's 10 sheltered housing schemes and 1 extra care housing scheme with a focus on digital inclusion.

About the role


You'll take the lead and overall responsibility for developing a range of activities (both individual and group) across the sheltered housing and extra care schemes.

These activities will be developed from needs identified in support plans as well as consultations with tenants and will build on the existing programme of events.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure risk assessments are in place and regularly reviewed for all social events, whether scheme based or outings from the unit.
  • Develop activities for those tenants who do not currently participate and who wish to socialise in their home rather than take part in communal activities
  • Promote equality of access to activities e.g. providing support to people with a learning disability, hearing/visual impairment or from a different ethnic background.
  • Promote digital inclusion amongst tenants through partnership working internally and externally
  • Liaise closely with the Sheltered and Extra Care Housing Team who will help to deliver the activities in partnership with volunteers
  • Recruit and develop a volunteer base to assist with providing activities. This will include ensuring that volunteers have relevant training and have DBS checks.
  • Lead in accessing funding opportunities for activities and to advise the social committees on how to access funding to sustain activities where appropriate.
  • Observe the general ability and response of tenants, recording and reporting information to colleagues as appropriate, including any concerns relating to safeguarding
  • Ensure that the safety and welfare of people attending the activities is maintained accepting shared responsibility for health and safety.
  • Obtain information from tenants and their relatives, colleagues and other professionals regarding their interests and skills, developing a rapport with them and encouraging their interests and skills.

About you


You'll be pro-active and be able to plan and organise activities that will stimulate interest and enhance older people's quality of life, a keen attention to detail is important as you will be maintaining computer-based records and managing your own workload.

You'll hold a full driving license as travel between sites is essential in this role.
