The team:
The award-winning Homes & Property team leads the agenda on multiple fronts from the London housing market to interiors trends, in print each Wednesday and round the clock online.
It is an authority on all things property related, is responsible for building an unrivalled digital audience and is a must read for anyone looking to rent, buy or renovate in or around the capital.
Role purpose:
Supporting the editor, the H&P deputy will deliver a high volume of ideas, commission and edit content across all platforms, and ensure an efficient workflow across platforms, as well as taking responsibility for various tasks to keep the desk running smoothly.
About you:
You are an excellent editor and journalist with experience in print and digital, and an ability to seek out highly engaging stories.
You can find and commission exclusives, come up with creative ways to illustrate a feature or story and edit pages and digital content to a tight brief.
Skills and experience:
- Excellent writing and editing, in print and online
- Proven experience of editing, subediting and proofreading in print and online
- Able to create eyecatching, accurate page furniture
- A meticulous eye for detail
- Experience building and growing digital audiences
- Ability to think crossplatform: how might a feature translate into video, audio and social content as well as in print and online
- Experience in working in a dynamic, fastmoving newsroom, quickly, accurately and confidently
- Experience planning, commissioning and editing content
- An interest in and knowledge of the London property market and interiors scene
- Ability to stay on top of admin, scheduling and other routine tasks
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Working to deliver the H&P editor's vision in print and online
- Identifying, commissioning and editing highly engaging interiors and property stories in print and online
- Staying abreast of trends in the London property market, house prices, mortgage market, renting, and homes and interiors worlds
- Commissioning freelancers and editing their copy
- Ensuring smooth work flow on desk and with the production team
- Maintaining excellent industry contacts, attending events and meetings
- Helping to grow the online audience
- Thinking of smart visual solutions to illustrate stories
- Ensuring the Evening Standard is first with all London property news and exclusives
