The Community Protection Unit needs a number of innovative and 'can do' officers to deliver a range of Council enforcement and intervention activities to bring about local improvements for our communities.


The Community Protection Unit deals with Environmental Health and Anti-Social Behaviour issues on a Neighbourhood Area basis both proactively and in response to high level of customer service demand.

The service also operates a highly successful Selective Licensing scheme for private rented housing in key parts of the Borough which is at the core of the work we do.


You will be expected to carry your own workload of investigations, enforcement and other intervention action together with providing support to Environmental Health Officers and Community Protection Officers.


The work will focus on dealing with enforcing private rented housing standards, neighbourhood nuisance, pollution issues, enviro-crime and other elements of Anti-Social Behaviour.


As part of the Community Protection team, the post requires you to have strong local community commitment and ability to participate and deliver actions to make a difference.


Support in other work areas will be required from time to time, and some work outside normal office hours including participation in a standby and an out of hour's rota will be required.


You must be enthusiastic, a good team worker with commitment, flexibility, and with a capability of working on your own initiative.


You will need to demonstrate positive skills in establishing and developing productive working relationships and also deliver against personal and team targets.

The posts are offered at Band F or Band G.

For appointment at the higher Band, the applicant must have demonstrable experience of successfully delivering tasks as specific to the role.

Apprenticeship type support and/or other formal qualifications will be offered for officers with no direct regulation an enforcement experience.
