We are looking for a Research Assistant to join the Research Centre for Learning, Teaching and Human Development in the School of Education.

The postholder will support Professor Adam Ockelford in research, development, and knowledge exchange in Applied Musicology, which extends music theory and analysis the fields of music education, music psychology and music therapy.


The key activities of the role are:

  • Research in the field
  • working with children, young people and adults across the spectrum of ability and need to gather data on their engagement in a range of musical activities.
  • Quantitative and qualitative applied musicological analysis.
  • Writing papers and reports and presenting at conferences and other public forums.
  • Bid writing.


We are looking for someone with a Masters degree in music, psychology or education, who has experience of undertaking applied musicological analysis.

You will be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally to a range of audiences. You will have the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. You will have or will need to obtain an enhanced DBS.
