Product Owner Planning and Transportation

The Planning and Transportation teams are seeking to extend and improve existing solutions to ensure the best possible capability within the business.

As the product owner in this key area you will own the Planning and Transportation Management capability for the Technology group to support the agreed business and technology roadmap.

Primark business is constantly expanding across borders and the need for a modern integrated planning solution for the network is paramount.

You will be responsible for existing systems including the Blue Yonder TMS and you will be supporting business and representing technology teams on the vision to move away from localised semi-automated planning and execution, to a more integrated national / international way of working.


Job Purpose:


You will report into the Senior Product Manager for Movement and you will work closely with functional and technology partners to build and manage the best fitting solutions using the most appropriate methodologies to meet business cases.

You will maintain a vision for how technology can be utilised to solve critical business problems, understand the impact of technical solutions on business outcomes and ensure the returns on investment are met.

You will proactively lead the collaboration and engagement with various partners and lead in delivering best practice solutions based on agreed requirements for this area.


Further you will:

  • Have business expertise in overall supply chain with a focus on Planning and Transportation Management.
  • Be confident leading discussions with internal and external partners to elicit information in order to understand true business needs and get these documented as User Stories.
  • Operate as the Technical Product Owner for the End2End solution within this area.
  • Lead and support the analysis, solution, design, and estimation of various projects and backlog items that address business problems.
  • Prioritise work based on understanding of requirements and business impact.
  • Understand technology strategy and be able to help develop business case alternatives which anticipate the future direction of the business.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Managing live products to ensure value is being delivered to end users. Ensuring BAU operations are achieved, and system availability is maintained.
  • Accountable for the release plan and strategy & cross portfolio alignment on relative priorities for the suite of products which may be identified to solve business and customer problems.
  • Responsible for the product development and operations, participating in planning (Sprint and Product increment) and providing a refined and precisely prioritised product backlog for the development team.
  • Work with the Senior Product Manager to define, prioritise and break the feature backlog into stories, including clarification and acceptance criteria.
  • Know our market, our competition and our business models. Identify trends within customer segments and product segments for new products or improvements for existing ones.

Knowledge & Experience Required:


  • Significant understanding of strategic Supply Chain transportation technologies.
  • Recent relevant experience as a product owner.
  • Deep understanding of retail global supply chain solutions from movement of goods from origin to store.
  • Multichannel experience.
  • Up to date with latest technical solutions from Global Trade Management through to Warehouse Management and automation of these solutions.
  • Over 3 years' experience in business relationship management in an IT environment.
  • Industry or functional expertise validated through experience working for a Retailer.
  • An appropriate degree, equivalent qualification, or experience.
  • Preferably a certification in Agile Product Ownership, Scaled Agile or equivalent.
  • Have a strong background working with crossfunctional Operations/Supply Chain organisation, as well as other key organisational stakeholders.
  • Be able to quickly learn and explain endtoend supply chain transport and planning solutions.
  • Be excited about being a key member of the team in helping to define and deliver global endtoend supply chain transport and planning solutions.
