We are looking for a highly motivated individual to manage the research library for the Lloyd's Register Foundation Heritage & Education Centre (HEC) and to provide specialist research support.
You will be responsible for maintaining the Library Management System and associated procedures.

Working with the Front of House & Information Advisor to provide professional research support in finding relevant reference materials and books, both online and in person.

The role holder will be responsible for print and digital library collection management and development, engaging with stakeholders and analysing internal systems to gather data and insights.


The post holder will also liaise with HEC team members to deliver the best possible service to researchers in-person and online.

This will include helping a wide range of enquirers (from colleagues, scholars, students, academics and clients to grant holders, project partners, and visitors from all around the world).

Also undertaking research for those unable to visit in person, or where the materials are not digitally available.


Key Responsibilities


Manage research projects for HEC including supporting on the initiation and delivery of new research agendas in line with the HEC Research Strategy.

Support internal and external researchers, LRF & LRG colleagues, enquirers and the HEC team as needed.

Managing the library collections and ensuring accessibility.


Collect, organise and catalogue books, journals, digital media relevant to maritime history and to the development of classification and associated safety innovations.

Ordering and keeping up to date the reference library collection of Lloyd's Register of Ships and associated material.


Ordering and keeping up to date the reference library collection of Rules & Regulations plus associated materials, publications, updates and notifications.

Manage integrated library system including serials control, cataloguing and acquisitions.

Ordering materials and performing literature searches.


Work with the Digital Archivist to ensure that current information about the organisation is captured and made accessible for the future.

This includes maintaining files of all published and digital editions of LR and LRF newsletters, brochures, technical papers, articles etc i.e.

Insight, Horizons, Group Review, Impact Review etc.

Undertake research using factual data in the SeaWeb Maritime Database tool.

Train staff on Library Management Systems (LMS) and on research/access procedures

Provide web content and information on research projects and research guides.

Researching and writing material for the HEC webpages and updating of same.

Provide information and images to the team to support social media campaigns.

Delivering talks and tours to groups online and in person.


Identify, suggest and assist managers with implementing change and developments to the administration processes and procedures to meet future business demands and improve current efficiency.

Acting as Case Officer for HEC grants as allocated.

Ensure documentation/data/information and tasks are planned, evaluated and processed in accordance with

local business requirements and agreed deadlines.

Ensure that activities within area of control are carried out in line with internal procedures and contractual

requirements.

Update the Roadmap and other reporting deliverables to help track the impact and engagement of HEC.

Support the team on ad hoc collections moves and associated planning.


Technical/Professional Qualifications / Requirements


Demonstrate and have experience in librarian skills including research support, library services, collection development and management, research services, library resources and research projects.

Excellent research and writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience of managing and updating integrated library systems including serials control, cataloguing and acquisitions.

Able to perform literature searches and produce reports.

Good personable communication skills and the ability to engage with members of the general public.

Experience of managing the acquisition and licensing of content in different formats.

Up to date on copyright and GDPR protocols.

Excellent project management skills and the ability to work independently and on own initiative.

Experience in Office 365 programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Yammer, MS Teams.

Confident in presenting and speaking to groups both online and in person.
