Are you an Accountant in search for an exciting new job opportunity? If so, London Fire Brigade, one of the largest Central Government agencies based in London are looking to recruit a Accountant on a 3-month contract (with possibility of an extension) tojoin their team.

The role is full time, Monday to Friday and offers hybrid work, 2 to 3 days work from home.


THE ROLE:


The post-holder will be responsible for helping to ensure the proper administration of the LFC's financial affairs, by delivering high quality financial services, as a critical contribution to the efficient, effective and economic achievement of the Brigade'svision.

This will embrace the strategic, regulatory, statutory and stewardship responsibilities which are fundamental to the operation of the LFC.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensure business continuity of the AP and AR systems so that suppliers can be paid promptly and correctly and so that all income due is accurately billed for and collected promptly.
  • Monitor the ongoing completion of financial reconciliations relating to the areas assigned to you, maintain an overview of the relevant control accounts, and prepare monthly control account monitoring/reconciliation reports as required making sure thatthey are all kept up to date and that any issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Complete all required returns for the Greater London Authority, government departments and professional bodies as assigned to you in a timely manner so that all deadlines are met e.g., CIS returns to HMRC.
  • Assist the Technical Accountant in the task of completing the Whole of Government Accounts return which will involve the coordination of input from other officers so that it is completed and submitted before the deadline.
  • Lead, coordinate and complete the areas allocated for the completion of the Statement of Accounts and the associated working papers.
  • Work alongside the Systems Accountant in developing the AR and AP modules of the financial systems to ensure that all systems updates and patches are installed and tested so that the system runs on the latest version available.
  • Work alongside the Systems Accountant in carrying out housekeeping tasks for both the AR and AP systems ensuring that records are up to date, accurate and current.
  • Assist in the process of issuing MFB invoices and in the collection of the MFB debt.
  • Maximise the income due to the LFB for goods and services provided by rigorously pursuing all debt due.
  • Operate the provision of corporate credit cards, keeping the policy and procedures up to date, provision of training, monitoring of compliance with policy and processing of returned statements.
  • Operate the provision of petty cash accounts, keeping the policy and procedures up to date, provision of training, monitoring of compliance with policy and processing of returned statements.
  • Provide cover for the preparation, reconciliation and submission of the monthly VAT return.
  • To represent finance at various meetings, preparing relevant financial information to inform decision making, providing financial advice and supporting projects and new initiatives.
