The role

The difference our new Fuel Handling FLM (First Line Manager) will make
As a Fuel Handling FLM (First Line Manager), you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary.

Having recently completed the last planned "Refuel" process, focus is now firmly on the generation of a "Defuel" capability, which requires the availability of a high performing Fuel Handling team.

Initial efforts will be focused on set to work and inactive commissioning of the latest suite of fuel handling tools and equipment, whilst also being required to conduct maintenance on all Fuel Handling Equipment.


Day to day, you'll undertake and manage the mechanical functions of the Fuel Handling Organisation; this will be to provide specialist technical expertise related to your discipline without compromising safety or quality.

You will direct, supervise, administer & deploy the Fuel Handling Operatives for the duration of their shift and be the singular direct supervisor of the Fuel Handling Operators under the direction of the FH Team Leader/Deputy.


You will be required to work shifts, normally a day shift and backshift pattern and may be required to do alternative shifts during busy periods.

36 hours - day shift = and backshift = Shorter shifts will be on Fridays.

Essential experience

  • ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
  • NIC, NSQAC Nuclear Procedure Co-Ordinators Course (Can be completed once on post)
  • Awareness of UK civil and defence nuclear regulatory requirements would be beneficial
  • Awareness of safety cases and nuclear infrastructure management
  • Able to work in a multidisciplined team
  • Experience in directing and managing industrial staff
  • Strong stakeholder management and communications skills
  • Computer literate with knowledge/experience of MS Office suites
  • You will need to satisfy security requirements. This will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance. Secret Atomic and NNPPI
