About the Team Leader, Underwriting (Second Charge Mortgages) role:
Our client is a growing, innovative Challenger Bank with a strong appetite to lend supported by an existing geographic footprint, competitive product offering & growing lending book.
As part of the next stage of their growth journey they are looking fora Team Leader, Underwriting (Second Charge Mortgages) to work with an established & busy teamPurpose of the Team Leader, Underwriting (Second Charge Mortgages) role;
- To manage the Second Charge Mortgage underwriting team.
- To provide an effective and efficient underwriting team to support the business objectives whilst maintaining the required risk standards.
- To deliver favourable customer outcomes in terms of credit assessment and customer experience.
Key responsibilities of the Team Leader, Underwriting (Second Charge Mortgages):
- To analyse and understand credit risks being presented and ensure both Asset Class Policies and Lending Policies are understood and respected across the underwriting team.
- To embed both the Bank and Division's Risk Management Framework within all activities within the underwriting team.
- The role holder will be required to exercise a delegated lending authority of up to £500,000 and participate in ad hoc projects as required
- Lead, manage, and motivate the underwriting team to ensure SLA's & KPI's are achieved
- To ensure good quality underwriting decisions are made in line with regulatory requirements and within the Bank's risk appetite
- Proactively manage the performance of the team through a monthly 11 and annual appraisal, providing feedback and coaching to staff. Utilising performance management tools to address any underperformance
- Compile management information, analysing the data to identify trends and initiate corrective steps to improve business performance and service levels, and the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation
- Promote and drive forward continuous improvement within the team to ensure changes are implemented and are promoted in a positive manner. Including any central projects
Skills & Experience of the Team Leader, Underwriting (Second Charge Mortgages) role
- CEMAP Qualification essential
- Commercial banking/ underwriting experience preferred in Regulated lending
- Managerial experience
- Expert industry knowledge in the Regulated mortgage market including an understanding of lending practices in that sector, structure, and risks
- Demonstrable ability to analysis varying income sources and complex business income structures to make an informed lending decision
- Excellent customer service, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Proven creditunderwriting skills within either banking or finance industry
- Ability to deliver results
- Good analytical skills, confident and selfassured
- Strong and proven leadership skills to lead and develop a team by example
- Ability to work in a changing environment requiring adaptability and flexibility together with the management of people through change
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport in order to engage employees and gain support of peers
- Build a strong balanced and effective team by setting clear goals and expectations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple business needs and projects working under pressure and to tight deadlines
