Description
OMFS is a specialty within the Surgical Services Directorate which is part of Acute Services.

The department provides treatment and healthcare on an area basis for a population of approximately 388,000. This post is based at University Hospital Crosshouse.


You will contribute to service requirements within your sub-specialty interest and will also contribute to a proportionate share of the general work of the department.

The following sub specialties are supported locally - dento-alveolar surgery, orthognathic/trauma deformity surgery, maxillofacial trauma, head and neck oncology, facial skin cancer, TMJ disease and implantology.


After a service review, major Head and Neck Oncology is carried out at the Regional Unit based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

The head and neck oncology post-holder in NHS Ayrshire and Arran currently supports this service with operating sessions for major head and neck cancer surgery within NHS GGC.


The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and are offered on a 9+1 programmed activity basis.

Applications from individuals who may wish to work less programmed activities may apply.

On-call commitment will be on a 1:4 basis, Monday through Thursday for Ayrshire and Arran, and 1:8 weekends on the Regional Rota covering the West of Scotland.


Applicants must either be on the GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST at the time of interview.
