Description

We wish to appoint a new consultant colleague to join our expanding Care of the Elderly (COTE) service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT), we are looking for subspecialty interests in orthogeriatric medicine, perioperative medicine, interface and community geriatrics.

Core to this post is:

- the early Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment of the frail elderly presenting as emergencies to our acute hospitals;
- the development and support of the Frailty Assessment Service and our Frailty Unit; and,
- a desire to increase the provision of general elderly care medicine within our trust and across the county of Gloucestershire.

However, individual job plans represent different jigsaw pieces that make up the complete picture of our service. Thus there are many, flexible opportunities for our consultants' development through our annual job planning process.

Interests of our current team include:
falls, syncope, orthogeriatrics, surgical liaison, movement disorders, frailty liaison, community geriatrics and dementia. We also have the flexibility to embrace new (and as yet undeveloped) areas of interest.

These posts include partaking in the fixed weekend COTE post take ward round and Frailty Assessment Service (FAS) sessions at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on a 1 in 10 basis (but no on-call).

As a senior employee of our Trust you will work in close co-operation with and support not just other clinical professionals but also our managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to our patients.

Integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives:

- to ensure the delivery of a high quality patient-centred clinical service
- to provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in that same task
- to sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- to work in accordance with our trust's procedures and operating policies
- to support the business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division and our Trust
- to work within the framework of team decisions
- to take a whole systems approach to working with the wider health community both NHS and social services
- to show initiative, enthusiasm and flexibility
