The job itself:


An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Planning Service at Team Leader level as we seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to lead our small, friendly and busy Conservation Team.


The Council is one of the largest and busiest Unitary Authorities in England, with a strong track record of delivering high quality services on behalf of its residents with a wealth of varied and interesting heritage assets, ranging from stately homes, parks and gardens, farmhouses, cottages to industrial buildings and maritime architecture.

We have over one hundred designated Conservation Areas and 2,700 listed buildings.


A degree or diploma in Historic Building Conservation, Architectural Conservation, Planning or a related discipline is essential as is extensive experience of Building Conservation, a significant proportion of which should be in local authority development management.

Good communication skills are vital due to the high level of internal and external stakeholder engagement, as is the ability to prepare and present expert evidence at appeal and committee meetings.

You will also have a detailed understanding of current legislation, policy, guidance and best practice in relation to planning and heritage protection.


You will have Conservation and heritage-related professional experience and a passion for the historic environment as well as the proven the ability to lead and motivate a professional team.


The council is based in the beautiful market town of Beverley which is a great place to live and work (named as one of the top ten places to live in the north of England by the Sunday Times), with outstanding schools, attractive housing, a spectacular Minster and Westwood and with a vibrant town centre.


Located close by is the historic Kingston upon Hull, City of Culture 2017, the East Yorkshire coastline and seaside towns together with the rolling Yorkshire Wolds all of which offer excellent opportunities for recreation.
