Are you a creative communicator interested in helping to prevent crime and contribute to positive policing outcomes?

We're looking for a new Corporate Communications Officer to join our team.

This is a varied and fast-paced role where you'll manage communications around operational policing and lead on engagement campaigns across a variety of digital and traditional platforms - internally and externally - to help serve and protect the communities of Warwickshire.

You will have a background in marketing, the media or a busy communications role.

You will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.


You will have a flair for developing creative, innovative and engaging communications and campaigns to raise awareness and change behaviours for internal and a variety of external audiences.

Above all, you will be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Where you have experience, you will hit the ground running.

On the job training will be available for areas in which you are not as experienced, and you'll become part of a friendly, passionate and supportive team.

The main purpose of the role is to develop and deliver communications activity for Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police to inform, influence and engage its communities, stakeholders, partners and workforce.


This is achieved through the delivery of targeted communications using channels that are appropriate to our audiences and the provision of specialist communications advice and support.

These communications should be outcome focused and build the public's trust and confidence in Warwickshire Police


Main Responsibilities:


To develop and deliver tactical communication strategies, initiatives and plans (internal and external) in line with policing priorities using a wide range of communication channels.

Lead on specific areas of communications as identified by the Corporate Communications Team leader


To provide strategic advice and guidance to senior officers/managers in relation to major and critical incidents, policing priorities, change projects, operations and corporate reputation risks.


To participate in an on call rota to provide 24/7 availability to provide tactical advice and guidance to manage risks to public confidence in the forces and/or respond to major and critical incidents.

To develop and deliver advice and training to enhance the communication capability and capacity of the workforce.

To develop and implement appropriate policies and guidance. Ensure Warwickshire Police comply with relevant legal requirements and national best practice.


To make best use of appropriate technology, good communication practice and devise innovative, effective communication solutions to deliver targeted communications to meet operational priorities.

Deliver key messages and communications using internal communication channels, digital and social media, media communication channels and marketing opportunities. Support the development of the forces' digital and social media presence.

To manage service suppliers as required e.g. photographic services, creative concept and total marketing solution suppliers.


To seek out new communication approaches to increase public confidence and satisfaction in police services utilising a range of channels.


To establish and maintain professional and positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including media organisations, partners and community-based organisations to extend the reach of police communications.

Negotiate and consult with both internal and external stakeholders to protect and manage risks to the reputation of the force.

In particular, manage and enhance the reputation of the force through local, national and international, specialist, social and digital media.


To provide effective and efficient written communications and information which positively and proactively promotes the force, build public confidence and enhance community safety and reassurance through communication channels and products to reach internal and external audiences.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.


Knowledge:

Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification.


Extensive knowledge of media law, ethics and codes of conduct and an understanding of the production, distribution and consumption of all forms of media, including new and multimedia.

Extensive knowledge of marketing theory, internal communications, marketing campaigns, digital and new media marketing and multimedia systems and tools
