Support Worker - Eyemouth
A lovely family in Eyemouth is looking for a caring, upbeat and active carer with a great
sense of humour to work with their 11 year old son who has a PDA profile Autism. The role
will require the worker to get to know the young lad and understand what he needs to be
able to do an activity with him once or twice a week, usually involving getting out and about
as he loves the beach, walking and generally being outdoors.


Terms:

Hours per week: 3

Hours of work:
Flexible in days and times, possibly split into 2 blocks of 1.5 hours
£11.50 per hour.
Paid annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks pro rata


Job Description:

**Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To support a young person to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
  • To maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the client's equipment and surroundings.
  • To develop a positive relationship with the young person and his family.
  • To interact with the young person and keep them entertained with activities they
enjoy, primarily in the local community including going for walks.

  • To work alongside a parent or another member of the team when required but to
work independently too

  • To take the young person on short trips out of the house for social activities,
therefore it would be desirable if you were able to use your own car and have
business insurance.

  • Kind and caring, sensitive to the young person's needs
  • Patient and cheerful with a great sense of humour
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Ability to use your own initiative
  • Willingness to engage with a young person with sometimes verbally challenging
behaviour.

  • Ability to work sensitively in a home setting respecting the client and family's right to
privacy and to always maintain professional standards of confidentiality

  • Must like dogs as the family have 2 small dogs and they are very important to the
young person.

**Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Autism, in particular PDA profile autism would be desirable but not
essential as training can be provided.

  • Driving experience with access to own car and business insurance would be desirable
as the young person very much enjoys getting out and about.
should be able to show some suitability for the role.

Terms

  • Hours to be mutually agreed
- £11.50 per hour

  • Paid annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks pro rata
  • Probationary period of 3 months
  • Mobile phone usage should be kept to emergency calls only
