Description
The post holder will work as a Technical Instructor within The Beacon Centre Day Service, based in Edgware. The Beacon Centre provides inpatient and day service treatment for young people (aged with acute and severe forms of mental illness. These include major mood disorders, psychosis, severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and emerging Personality Disorders. It provides evidence based specialist mental health assessment and intervention, in order to meet crisis, acute and treatment needs.


The post will involve delivery of the day service provision to young people in crisis, focusing on functional daily living skills and specific mental health and risk issues.

The aim of the service is to prevent inpatient admission and reduce length of stay for young people accessing the inpatient service.

This role will include the planning and facilitating of a range of therapeutic individual and group work as delegated by the day service nurse lead.

The patients are young people with diverse needs and presentations.


The aim of the work is to increase each patient's level of independence and to help them to acquire the appropriate life skills as well as providing a therapeutic, recreation and leisure opportunities that may contribute to recovery.


  • To work alongside the Day Service Lead during the initial interview and induction process of the Young Person.
  • To liaise with the Day Service Lead regarding the functional ability of individual patients and implementation of treatment programmes.
  • To follow the referral process for patients attending sessions ensuring that appropriate security and risk procedures are adhered to.
  • To ensure that a range of activities is available so that individual treatment programmes can be implemented.
  • To ensure that treatment programmes and activities are carried out to a competent standard.
  • To support the Day Service Lead in maintaining the timetable of activities and to ensure that changes are communicated to patients appropriately.
