ACS International Schools are recruiting a University & Careers Guidance Counsellor to join the team at ACS Hillingdon International School.

Knowledge, skills, and experience required:


  • Educated to at least Bachelor's degree level, essential.
  • Experience working in Secondary School/High School university and careers counselling/guidance.
  • Experience in teaching, preferred.
  • Strong IT skills essential and knowledge of BridgeU is desirable.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Maintain college placement records, produce reports about placements and update school profile (including the College Counselling section of the ACS intranet page and online profile).
  • Maintain credit checks.
  • Educate students, parents and faculty about nonUK universities and colleges, the admissions process, trends and procedures.
  • Write official school recommendations. Work with faculty to improve and standardise the quality of their advocacy letters and liaising with staff who are part of a wider reference writing team.
  • Work with Heads of Year to ensure the Career programme is embedded in the PSHE curriculum.
  • Work with the IB and AP Coordinators on planning and developing Career Day.
  • Work with the IB and AP Coordinators on planning and developing a work experience/internship programme.
  • Complete all student reports and midyear Report Forms requested by colleges.
  • Provide information about financial aid and proper submission of FAFSA
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with University Admissions personnel through school visits and visits to campuses.
  • Keep uptodate on issues and trends related to University placement through professional development and attending local conferences.
  • Take a role in educational and informational programmes related to College Counselling (e.g. student, teacher and parent workshops, open evenings, assemblies etc.).
  • Be available for parent conferences and "dropins" ("Open Door" policy).
  • Coordinate the exit of students from Hillingdon, liaising with and mailing transcripts to other institutions.
  • Represent ACS Hillingdon College Counselling office at offcampus events.
  • Serve on Accreditation, ISI and other committees as requested.
  • Coordinate and schedule PSAT Oxbridge and similar tests.
  • Communicating, in a supportive way, decisions taken by the school leadership team.
  • Contributing to the building of an open, responsive and welcoming ethos for the school towards stakeholders.
  • Organising university tours and visits.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.
