Hours per week: 35-37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours

Provide a high quality of care and support, which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, behavioural, health, social and cultural needs of the children and families for whom the home provides a service.

This may include working with children with challenging behaviour, complex emotional problems, mental health and other additional/special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high quality of care and support, which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, behavioral, health, social and cultural needs of the children and families for whom the Centre provides a service. This will include working in the home, and also working to support children in the community, in other settings, and working in children's own homes.
  • Follow Care Plans and any other plans in place for the child, including safeguarding plans, health plans, and behavioral plans.
  • Support the child attending educational, religious, social and cultural activities.
  • Supervising contact between children, young people and members of their family or others as directed by the court, or in line with Care Planning.
  • Administer medication once training has been given, which may include emergency medication.
  • Attend relevant meetings related to the care of children including review, and planning meetings.
  • Complete appropriate recording and documentation related to the care of children including recording on the computer database. Use other information technology and associated systems as needed.
  • Take part in training, supervision and appraisal, and attend team meetings and development days. Work in other parts of the service for short periods either as part of training or development, or to meet the needs of service users.
  • Participate in the agreed working rota, which may include weekends, bank holidays, evenings, early mornings, and sleeping or waking night shifts (the Home will be open 365 days per year.) Once appropriately experienced act as shift leader on some occasions.

Unless the DBS requirement stated above is for a Basic Disclosure, your DBS must be either through us or be accompanied by a subscription to the DBS updating service.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent working with Children and Young People.
  • QCF level 3 diploma in Residential care in working with children and young people, or a qualification that the registered manager deems equivalent.
  • Full driving licence, access to a vehicle.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use IT systems.
  • Understanding of the needs of Children including children with special needs and emotional difficulties.
  • Understanding of child development and challenging behaviour.

Experience:


  • Some experience of working with children, young people and families in a relevant setting.
  • Experience of working with people from other agencies.
  • Experience of providing direct care/support.
  • Experience of managing challenging situations.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
  • Able to engage with children, young people and adults of all ages and all levels of ability.
  • Ability to be enthusiastic, outgoing and confident.
  • Ability to work in partnership with parents / families and other professionals.
  • Able to work as part of a team but also as a lone worker.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible in order to meet the needs of families this includes the ability to participate, as required, in a rota and/or "on call" system which will require availability across 7 days per week, 24 hours per day and will include Bank Holidays.
  • Able to relate well to challenging people.
  • Able to support service development and have a positive attitude.
