We invite you to bring your ecological skills and experience into play as part of our ecology team.You will be key member of the team, working closely with the office ecology lead managing and assisting with a range of projects spanning several sectors.
To succeed in this role you must have an appropriate BSc or equivalent qualification and be a Member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management at the appropriate grade.
Good plant identification skills relating to a range of groups in a range of habitats is essential with experience of managing and undertaking ecology surveys for a range of flora/fauna also beneficial.
You should have a solid understanding of the Biodiversity Net Gain process.

As our new Senior Ecologist/Botanist, you will be part of our Environment and Health division, working on a range of projects ranging from commercial or residential development to transport and renewable energy projects.

You will join a positive, progressive environment team in an Ecosystem Solutions team delivering projects that use nature based solutions and you will have a great opportunity to play a part in growing this team further and positively contributing to the wider business.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
- Planning and undertaking ecological surveys and producing high quality reports (e.g. Preliminary Ecological Appraisal). Able to use your botany skills to classify habitat types (for instance using Phase 1, UKHab, NVC methodologies) and to undertake invasive, protected, notable or rare plant surveys in a range of habitats across the UK
- Evaluating the condition of habitats as required for Biodiversity Net Gain and BREEAM
- Carrying out biodiversity change calculations, notably using the Natural England Metric
- Work on a range of ecology and biodiversity services
- Undertaking ecological mitigation design and delivery
- Liaising with ecological regulators and planning authorities
- Managing small to medium scale projects with input on large scale projects with the support of the ecology lead
- Main point of contact with Ramboll project managers, clients, partner organisations and subconsultants
- Delivering technical work on complex projects
- Fee proposal preparation and assisting with client relationship management
- Supervision and management of more junior ecologists and training/mentoring in botanical and habitat survey skills
- Input to resource planning
- Carrying out such additional duties as may reasonably be required in this role
- Point of contact with clients to discuss biodiversity issues in support of our Partner for Sustainable Change ambitions
- Interfacing with Ramboll's landscape design practice to help us deliver more effective biodiversity and ecosystems outcomes
- Reviewing reports including EIA chapters
- Delivering complex projects on time and managing them to budget
- Effective resource planning, management and mentoring of an ecology team in a multidisciplinary consultancy environment
- Business development and client relationship management
Key deliverables
- Successful contribution to delivery of major EIA projects
- Technical specialist / point of contact for the team on botany issues
- Successful collaborator with other teams in Ramboll, such as Impact Assessment and Buildings
- Key client contact and prominent member of the regional ecology team
- Contribution to the fields of biodiversity, natural capital, climate and sustainability
- Key responsibility for development of the biodiversity net gain discipline in the Ecology team
- Key member in delivery of the Ecosystem Solutions business plan and input to the development of future plans
- Innovator in biodiversity, natural capital, climate or sustainability
