This is a 12 month fixed term pilot to support the evolving Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) dietetic service.As an UGI Nutritionist you will be accountable for a designated clinical caseload, working within an evidence-based nutritional intervention plan under the guidance of an UGI specialist dietitian.
You will support patients and carers going through investigation, treatment, or palliation for Oesophageal or Gastric cancers, signposting patients and carers to ensure holistic cancer care.
The UGI nutritionist will be responsible for 'Best supportive Care', 'Wedge resection', and 'nutritional deficiencies' telephone clinics. You will lead on identifying nutritional deficiencies in UGI patients and liaise with GPs to correct abnormalities.
The UGI Nutritionist will work as part of an established Cheshire and Merseyside UGI dietetic service at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) covering UGI cancer and complex benign patients.
The UGI dietetic team is part of a wider dietetic team at RLUH with many highly specialist teams supported by Dietetic assistants and assistant practitioners.
The post holder will work alongside the UGI MDT and collaborating trusts, following the optimal OG pathway for Cheshire and Merseyside, to ensure seamless, streamlined, and timely nutritional care of UGI cancer patients.
You will support UGI home enterally fed patients with SOS calls and trouble shooting.You will assist discharges and feeding tube placement by delivering tube care training, whilst delivering, and providing support and supervision to band 4 UGI Assistant Practitioners with pump training.
You will be responsible for education and training to catering and ward staff regarding the UGI menu, and meal provision.
