RESPONSIBLE TO:
Head of Operations

DURATION:
Permanent contract.

LOCATION:

HOURS OF WORK:37.5 hours per week, full-time.

An excellent opportunity to join The Turnaround Project as our Coach, supporting our transitional employees to join our organisation, engage in our strengths-based coaching model, and move on into conventional employment; as well as addressing other factors that impact them on that journey.

THE TURNAROUND PROJECT:

The _Turnaround Project_ enables people who have been given prison or community sentences to turn around their futures. Working with people before and after they complete their sentences, providing real jobs in transitional employment opportunities. Turnaround works to tackle the barriers between people and employment. In the process, Turnaround engages the wider community in supporting people on that journey.

To achieve our vision, Turnaround aims:

  • To work with people who are serving sentences in prison or in the community, and to help them turn around their lives and leave offending behaviour behind; and
  • To turn around the wider community, encouraging others to support people on their journey away from offending.
Our approach seeks to address as many of the factors that impact on that journey as possible.

But transitional training and employment opportunities, before and after people complete their sentences, is at the heart of what we do.

Transitional training and employment opportunities are provided within social enterprises established and run by the Turnaround Project. Real training, real jobs, in real enterprises.

Transitional employment is different to conventional employment, with our enterprises providing a supportive environment that recognises the challenges faced by many of the people we exist to support.

That means we look for staff who believe in our values, and who have the right mix of skills, empathy, flexibility and commitment that are necessary to achieve our charitable purposes.

THE JOB:

The role of coach is rewarding for the postholder and integral to Turnaround's impact.

You will work directly with people leaving the justice system, helping them on their journey to turn around their future.

You will also contribute to furthering the aims and values of Turnaround as we grow to provide more opportunities and achieve our goals and impact.

You will provide holistic support to enable transitional employees overcome barriers to employment and secure job opportunities, setting realistic and achievable goals.

Additionally, you will undertake outreach in the community, within the justice system and with people who have served sentences to encourage people to take up opportunities in the Turnaround Project.

You also will be responsible for evaluating the suitability of people who wish to join the Turnaround Project in line with our aims, values and criteria.

At this exciting stage in our development, we are looking for an exceptionally motivated person who understands the needs of those leaving the justice system and the barriers they may experience to turning around their futures.

OUR ENTERPRISES:

Turnaround currently runs two enterprises which provide employment opportunities for people who have served sentences.
-
'Outwork'_, our property services enterprise, operates with crews of transitional employees working under an on-site Supervisor, delivering contracts for commercial and private clients who want us to do as good a job - or better - as any other provider.
-
'Big Loop Bikes'_, our bike enterprise, provides bikes servicing and repair, sale of professionally refurbished bikes, bike leasing schemes for employers and 'Dr Bike' sessions in the community.

It operates at three locations within Belfast:

at our full-service bike shop on the Queen's University campus; at the sustainable travel hub at Belfast's Cathedral Gardens; and at our community workshop in North Street.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

With the goal of enabling people to turn around their futures after serving sentences in prison or in the community, you will:
