The Role:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate College Student Support Worker to join our team and provide essential assistance to young adults with complex needs in a college setting.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of these individuals by offering guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their educational journey.
This role is available bothfull-time (4 days a week) and
part-time (flexible).
Responsibilities:
- Provide oneonone support to college students with complex needs, including but not limited to physical disabilities, learning difficulties, mental health challenges, and behavioral issues.
- Assist students in navigating college campus facilities, accessing resources, and participating in college activities.
- Develop individualized support plans in collaboration with college staff, students, and their families, taking into consideration their unique needs, goals, and aspirations.
- Help students develop essential life skills, such as time management, organization, study techniques, and selfadvocacy, to promote independence and success.
- Provide emotional support and mentorship to students, promoting selfconfidence, selfesteem, and positive relationships.
- Collaborate with college faculty and staff to ensure students' specific needs are met within the college environment, including implementing reasonable accommodations and modifications as necessary.
- Monitor students' progress, evaluate their needs, and adjust support strategies accordingly.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of various disabilities and developmental disorders, as well as understanding of the challenges faced by young adults with complex needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and college staff.
- Empathy, patience, and a nonjudgmental attitude towards students.
- Desire to help students and have a "cando" proactive attitude.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the college environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, collaborating effectively with colleagues and professionals from different disciplines.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Proficient computer skills to maintain student records and utilize relevant software.
