Physicist / Computer Scientist

Job Location:
Monmouth, Wales (commutable from Pontypool, Newport, Abergavenny, Cardiff etc.)

Job Salary:
£25-30k depending on experience

Job Details:
Full time job, 37 hours a week

Job Benefits: 23 days holiday + bank holidays, flexitime, full training, paid study time to take paid technical courses


The Client:

We are currently working with a manufacturer of speciality chemicals who have been established for almost 100 years now. They have played a significant role in the fibre-optics industry and continue to pioneer the way in this industry. The Analytics divisioncurrently has 3 staff and is planning to increase in size in the next 6 months.
They are a small friendly technical team in Wales, but part of a much larger organisation throughout the UK.

They are able to offer excellent support and training, including full training in the LabVIEW programming language as well as paying for courses atOpen University to allow professional development for the graduate.


The Role:


The company are currently looking for a Physics / Computer Science graduate to join their team who will enjoy experimental projects involving a mixture of hands-on practical work, software design and implementation; interpreting the results and improving them;working in close collaboration with others towards a set of common goals.


Projects will include:

  • Laser beams
  • Fibreoptics
  • Free space optics
  • Computer control
  • Software design
  • Programming and debugging
  • Optical measurements
  • Data analysis

Job Requirements:


  • A degree in Physics and Computer Science or similar
  • Maths and Physics A-Levels
  • Technical understanding of waves and fields, objectorientated programming, software project management tools, databases
  • Systematic and creative in nature, good communicator and selfmotivated
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential
