Internal Communications Business Partner

37 hours

Salary £44,539 - £50,470
County Hall Dorchester, combined with home-working

Effective internal communication has never been more important, and we are looking for an exceptional individual to join our award-winning team as Business Partner for Internal Communications.

Dorset Council is a young organisation, created as a new unitary council in April 2019.

With around 4,500 employees, this is an exciting opportunity to join us on our journey as we build our culture as an organisation and develop our 'One Team' approach to delivering services for local residents.

The council has a number of ambitious transformation projects underway, and we are increasingly adopting an 'agile communications' approach to engage colleagues in this work.

This is a great opportunity to work in a busy and experienced team where no two days are ever the same.

What you can expect to be doing:

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications and Engagement, you will be the council's lead for internal communications, managing a number of channels, providing advice to colleagues, and overseeing the implementation of our internal communications strategy.

You will lead communications from the council's Senior Leadership Team, and you will also work closely in partnership with our HR, OD, Digital and Change teams.

You will offer advice and support on communicating significant and sensitive information, updates and announcements to colleagues, as well as leading internal campaigns.

You will know how to make imaginative use of internal channels to reach employees in the most effective and engaging ways possible, and to connect employees across different sites, including colleagues who work without computers.

This includes exciting work to develop and launch our new intranet.

About you:

You'll be a strategic thinker with experience of working in an internal communications function, and excited about playing an integral role in shaping our organisation's culture.

It goes without saying that you'll be an excellent communicator, with a track record of creating compelling content and engaging audiences through story telling across different media.

The role will involve working with many different teams and colleagues across the council, so you'll bring experience of working with multiple stakeholders and the ability to build trust and positive relationships with a range of colleagues, including senior officers and councillors.

You will have experience of developing considered messaging on a range of confidential and sensitive organisational issues.

Additional Information:

The post holder will manage a small team.

A driving licence and access to use of a vehicle for work travel is desirable.

With hybrid working in place, you will be able to work both from home and from the office, with a balance to suit you and us.
