Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Chaplain who is able to work creatively and flexibly to provide and facilitate high quality Spiritual, Pastoral, and Religious care to patients, visitors, and staff of all faith and beliefs.

The chaplain will be based at Leighton Hospital


The chaplain will work collaboratively as part of a team of Trust Chaplains, Volunteer Chaplains and visiting Faith Leaders and will share in maintaining a 24/7 on call service that includes Weekends and Bank Holidays.


Working reflectively, the chaplain will have a high degree of self-awareness and a natural ability to sensitively come alongside those who use and provide Trust services.


The Chaplain will increase the profile of the department by having a visible presence around the hospital, promoting the importance of spiritual needs within a healthcare culture that supports patient centred, holistic care.

Sharing in delivering and developing the Chaplaincy Service.

Provision and oversight of 24/7 spiritual, emotional, pastoral, cultural and religious care for service users and staff.


Developing good working relationships within the ecumenical and multifaith chaplaincy team as well as within the Multidisciplinary Teams across the Trust.

Participate in training and education within the chaplaincy team and the Trust.

Sharing in the selection, training, co-ordination supervision and support of the work of Chaplaincy Volunteers.


Maintaining spiritual disciplines in accordance with your own faith or belief and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains.

SERVICE DELIVERY

  • To work with the Chaplaincy Team in developing the Chaplaincy service throughout the Trust.
  • To work ecumenically, collaboratively and cooperatively with other members of the Chaplaincy Team to provide for the pastoral, spiritual and emotional needs of patients, their relatives, staff and visitors to the Trust regardless of their faith, beliefs and customs.
  • To visit patients and staff in the wards and departments regularly and when requested to give special ministrations, for example, the seriously ill and dying. To administer the necessary rituals of the Church including emergency baptism, confession and administration of Sacraments.
  • To conduct services when necessary in the hospital chapel and to support colleagues in regular acts of worship.
  • To take part in the care and support of parents and families experiencing loss during or following pregnancy, providing support for staff and observing the necessary procedures and protocols.
  • In liaison with the Chaplaincy team, Bereavement Manager and other Trust Managers, evaluate and assess the need for Chaplaincy / Spiritual care within the Trust.
  • To advise the Trust on all aspects of Chaplaincy / Spiritual Care.
  • To liaise with colleagues involved in Bereavement Service provision.
  • To attend Chaplaincy meetings.
  • To maintain links with the wider faith community as required.
  • To support in a 24 hour on call cover.
  • To observe the requirements of confidentiality.
MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP

  • To be conversant and engaged with NHS structures and quality issues, and to maintain appropriate standards of service; to assist in implementing guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure standards are achieved.
  • To work with Multi-Disciplinary colleagues as a member of the healthcare professional workforce reflecting the specialty and expertise of a Chaplain in various care settings.
  • Work with the Chaplaincy team and other multi-disciplinary staff, and the Bereavement Manager, in the development of the Bereavement Service within the Trust.
  • To be adaptable and flexible to the changing demands of the Chaplaincy work.
  • To be aware of the effects of changes within the NHS and to support staff as these changes are implemented and developed.
EDUCATION/LEARNING

  • To be committed to professional development and undertake continuing training as identified through Motiv8 reviews
  • To be proactive in identifying relevant educational / developmental opportunities to discuss with their line manager.
  • To undertake mandatory training.
  • To care for one's own mental, emotional and spiritual heath.

PERSONAL

  • Attend regular 1:1 meetings with Line Manager.
  • To observe all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures, particularly in respect to Confidentiality, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
  • To observe the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the College of Healthcare Chaplains.
  • To adhere to any Code of requirements of the Denominational Authority.
