Personality Disorder Probation Officer - Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service

£30,812 - £38,289 + London weighting allowance of £4,126

The Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS) is delivered as a joint operation between the Probation Service and health providers, as part of a wider OPD pathway strategy.

IIRMS provides direct services to People on Probation who are high risk high need, who may be difficult to engage and ambivalent in their motivation but are willing to consider additional support.

Such individuals are likely to have a prior history of failure in the community - including recall and reoffending - and are likely to struggle with a range of psycho social factors.

Innovation is a key approach.


This role description is supplementary to and compliments the Probation Service generic PO job description and the Personality Disorder Specialist PO Role Description.

This post is designed to support the implementation of the Governments Personality Disorder (PD) Strategy. This is a 0.5 full time equivalent (FTE) post. The post holder will hold another 0.5 FTE post within the OPD Community Pathway, such as a PDPO.

Post holder will be required to demonstrate:

  • A knowledge of personality difficulties and a willingness to develop this knowledge
  • An understanding of trauma informed approaches
  • Have completed/willing to complete the KuF Awareness Training to Train the Trainer level
  • Capability of reflective practice
  • Capability of collaborating with multidisciplinary, multisectoral risk management plans

Activity

  • Manage a caseload of People on Probation receiving direct services from IIRMS.
  • Engage with IIRMS service recipients, using psychologically informed approaches, to improve their engagement and motivation to engage in therapeutic services.
  • Work in partnership with all Pathway Partners and liaise with external agencies to promote service access for People on Probation receiving an IIRMS service.
  • Work jointly and collaboratively with Probation Practitioners in the PDUs. PDU Probation Practitioners have full management responsibility for IIRMS cases.
  • Deliver training Health and other OPD Partners. Be trained to "train the trainer level" to deliver Knowledge & Understanding (KUF) level and to train KuF trainers.
  • Deliver therapeutic group interventions for People on Probation who have committed a violent or sexual offence.
  • Competently produce risk formulation to at least Level
  • Be responsible for ensuring you are aware of Regional and national development and best practice and support nonProbation colleagues to understand these arrangement.
  • Develop proficiency in advanced assessment approaches used in IIRMS assessments. ( e.g. HCR/20, Stable 2007)
  • Supervise IIRMS PSO/Senior Support Worker if required.
  • Represent PSL at IIRMS Business meetings as delegated by SPO/Pathway Operational Lead.
  • Attend MAPPA level 2 and level 3 meetings as required.
  • Access continuing professional development to support own skills/competency development and ensure credibility with colleagues.
  • Attend Clinical Supervision as provided by the OPD Pathway.
  • Attend bimonthly Practitioner Group meetings. These meetings will have a business and clinical dimension and will form part of CPD.
  • Attend Team meetings as required.
  • Collect, collate, and report Project data as required and ensure recording in nDelius of all relevant discussions, advice and consultations.
  • Support PDPOs as required. This could include providing cover for PDPOs if required.
  • Undertake joint case work in PDUs.
  • Any additional tasks that are of a similar level that may be necessary.

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties.
  • Experience of working with diverse communities including promoting equality and valuing diversity.
  • An understanding and appreciation of equality
  • Experience of working with individuals and groups in order to motivate and change offending behaviour.
  • Experience of working with people who have committed offences.
  • Experience of working with people with personality difficulties

Outcomes for PDUs

  • Improved sentence planning which addresses complex needs, facilitating progress of People on Probation through the sentence.
  • Effective and proportionate risk management plans in place.
  • Reducing recalls or increasing the length of time PPs can supervise People on Probation in the community before resorting to recall.
  • Improved knowledge of referral pathways.
  • Increased offender access to community services.
  • Increased holistic assessments.
  • A more psychologically informed workforce.
  • PD cases better managed by MAPPA.
  • Improved service to People on Probation and improved experience for those delivering the service.
