Background


Student Services is a major division within Academic Services at the University of Birmingham, with responsibility for providing core services that help our students achieve personal, academic, and professional success.


Student Services are led by the Director of Student Affairs and comprises a number of functional teams that support students from the point of enrolment and Welcome to Graduation, for all students at all levels, including: University Graduate School, Funding Graduation & Awards, Student Disability Services, Aston Webb Student Hub, Student Wellbeing Services, International Student Team, Go Global, Student Experience & Communications, Student Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Student Services aims to contribute to meeting the University's 2030 strategic ambition of establishing Birmingham in the top 50 of the world's leading universities, enhancing the student experience by:

  • Co-creating and innovating across the student lifecycle, for all students, to deliver services that support student success and contribute to the University's growth and strategic ambitions.
  • Seeking to challenge the "business as usual" service delivery against measures of value for money, positive impact, and effectiveness.

Role Summary
The post holder will work as part of Funding, Graduation & Awards (FGA) team.

They will be responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the University's Degree Congregations, ensuring alignment with divisional and institutional objectives to enhance and improve the Graduand and volunteer staff experience.


The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the institution, to ensure continuous improvement is sought, in the preparation and delivery of ceremonies, and the wider on campus, graduation day experience.


The post holder will also deliver funding advice, contributing to the delivery of in-person open days, and events as directed by the Head of Funding, Graduation & Awards.


Main Duties

  • The post holder will be expected to take lead responsibility for the management and delivery of the University's Degree Congregations working collaboratively with colleagues in key areas, including but not limited to, Registry, Conferencing and Events, Creative Media, and the Executive Office.
  • To identify and act upon opportunities to ensure that Degree Congregations are delivered effect
