Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint a Mechanical Lead.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer leading the mechanical works you will manage the design development and delivery of mechanical and nuclear process engineering work packages.

This is in support of Astute Class submarines at 5 Basin.

You will be directly accountableto the Facility Design Manager meeting the necessary standards in terms of quality, scope, schedule and cost.

£70p/hr UMB

Key requirements:

  • You will lead and manage mechanical and nuclear process technical design packages agreeing project related objectives, managing designer performance and making appropriate technical management responses.
  • As the Intelligent customer you will be reviewing design deliverables produced by external design houses to ensure that design documentation covers the scope of operations required and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
  • Ensure design information is articulated to the 5 Basin East Wall Centre and South Design Manager to enable appropriate justification of the engineering / activities within the Facility Safety Case.
  • Liaise with Engineering stakeholders to ensure that the technical design aspects of the engineering is aligned with the Nuclear Safety requirements and the concept meets the high level capability requirements of the facility.

Key Skills:

  • Relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of large scale and complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Systems Engineering knowledge (Systems Thinking).
  • Experience of the design support to construction and operation of refit/repair facilities (both nuclear and nonnuclear).
  • Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience.
  • Ideally Chartered engineer or able to achieve demonstrate equivalence
