Activities and Responsibilities of the Post
Principle Purpose of the role


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the Joint Major Investigation Team working as a HOLMES Indexer, and as part of that team, contributing to the delivery of high quality major investigations utilising the HOLMES system.

Applications are invited for the above post in the Major Incident Room at Martlesham PHQ.

Main Activities of the Role

  • Maintain the HOLMES database in accordance with MIRSAP "Responsibilities of an Indexer".
  • Raise and result actions.
  • Maintain designated indices.
  • Crossreference documents in indices.
  • Undertake roles within a casualty bureau and incident call centre.
  • Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by management.
Person Specification

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Accurate keyboard skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrate the ability to use own initiative and work effectively with mínimal supervision
  • Demonstrate the ability to research and pay close attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel throughout East Anglia
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of working within a major investigation environment
Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday.

This post is offered on a permanent basis

Special conditions / Points to note

  • The purpose of this job description is to indicate the general level of the duties and responsibility of the role, the duties may from time to time vary without changing the general character of the role or the levels of responsibilities
  • Whilst the role is normally based at the aforementioned location, you may be required to work at other establishments across both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as may be reasonably required. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances
  • All duties must be carried out in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and good practice. A 'No Smoking in the Work Place' policy applies.

  • Due to the nature of the post the post holder may be requested to work flexibly or to work additional hours on occasion
