Description
Are you looking for a new challenge and a rewarding career working in Mental Health and Learning Disabilities in the North East of England?

Are you a qualified, experienced and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist?

An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our service to provide input into the Community Treatment Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities.

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual, with specialist clinical experience in this area.

You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality speech and language therapy to these services.

The Gateshead Adult Learning Disability Community Treatment Team, based at Bensham Hospital in Gateshead, provides assessment, intervention and an MDT approach/care co-ordination service to adults who have a learning disability, challenging behaviour and/or mental health needs and require specialist speech and language therapy input for communication and dysphagia needs.

As a therapist of the team, you will liaise closely with fellow professionals to address communication difficulties as part of a holistic, patient-centred service, in contributing to, writing and reviewing care plans and providing high-quality person-centered care.

You will work closely with the clinical lead for the team and will provide clinical supervision, support and leadership for other members of the team as designated.

You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated community support for communication and dysphagia issues providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation as required.

You will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex issues from a variety of settings and environments.

Liaison with community teams, other organisations, families and carers will be a significant part of this role.

You will contribute to, write and review care plans and provide high quality patient centred care.

You will have a varied caseload, working in day centres and patients' homes with opportunities to contribute to a range of wider projects within the community setting.

You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and there will be a requirement to share knowledge and skills specific to speech and language therapy, to other members of the team including stakeholders.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust is continuing to develop and grow to meet the needs of our patients and local communities.

We are looking for dedicated and passionate individuals with different levels of qualifications and clinical knowledge and experience to join our team.

We will provide you with a comprehensive induction period and you will have access to ongoing clinical supervision and appraisal with development reviews that will provide you with support and the specialist skills required to meet the holistic needs of the patients in your care.

You will be expected to actively engage in the Trusts' supervision and continuing professional development process.

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future.

In return, we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

You will be required to travel to other sites across the Trust as part of the role.

There is an expectation that you will be flexible and able to provide cover in the other Adult Learning Disability Teams across the Trust as required.
