About the role

The role is within the revenues service for North Northamptonshire and will primarily be based out of Corby but cover the whole of North Northamptonshire where required.


The primary function of the role will be visiting Council Tax and Business Rate properties to ensure that we hold the correct information for billing and liability purposes, both current and future growth.

What will you be doing?


Key duties will be:

  • To visit new and altered dwellings for domestic and commercial use and carry out adhoc visits as required by the Billing Team.
  • Identify chargeable dwellings and businesses, conduct interviews and complete documentation for Billing Officers.
  • Establish and monitor discounts and exemptions for Council Tax and National Non-Domestic Rates hereditaments in accordance with instructions and legislation.
  • Prepare and issue completion notices to comply with Local Government Finance Act.
  • To record the results of visits and interviews carried out keeping accurate records and update relevant computer systems. Ensure details are transferred to billing workflow for appropriate action to the accounts.
  • Prepare daily reports for visits using computerised systems (including Northgate, Academy and DIP/Workflow systems) and reports received from Revenues Manager, Planning and Environmental Services.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Council Tax Base by annually reviewing the number of new properties due to be built in any one financial year and monitor business rate growth
About you
You will be comfortable dealing with members of the public and businesses.


Though team work is core to our culture a lot of the time you will be working independently due to the nature of the job.

You will have an excellent eye for detail and be able to deal with a varied and changeable workload.

Knowledge of Business Rates and Council tax would be useful but not essential as full training will be given
