Job Introduction

Skills & Learning is a top performing Adult Community Education (ACE) provider, previously shortlisted for provider of the year in the prestigious Times Education awards.

Ofsted judge the service as 'Good' overall and the quality of Information, Advice and Guidance is independently checked and endorsed by Matrix.

Direct Claim Status (the highest level of autonomy) is held for the qualifications we deliver, and Government administered learner satisfaction survey results are excellent; most learners achieve and would recommend Skills & Learning to others.

We are looking to grow our team of maths and numeracy tutors.

Join us and inspire adult learners to develop, improve and use maths and numeracy skills in their everyday life and in work.

Help us to break down those maths fear barriers and help our learners to achieve recognised qualifications that will enable them to progress in work or further study.

This is a fixed minimum hours contract of on average 22 hours a week with 16 of those hours being contact time.

Skills & Learning delivers learning all year round across various locations in Dorset and online. The contracted hours assume a 44 week working year.

Role Purpose
To support learners to identify and achieve their personal learning goals by providing a high quality, enjoyable learning experience.

Teaching, supporting and assessing learners, course management, communication, registration of learners for exams and own continuing professional development.

Main Responsibilities

As a maths functional skills and numeracy tutor at Skills & Learning, you will develop, plan and deliver new courses and workshops for our adult learners, fostering creative approaches that take the focus off 'scary maths' and instead explore numeracy topics in a practical way relevant to everyday life and work.

You will be expected to create schemes of work and lesson plans, identify and create high quality teaching and learning resources.

You will support learners to achieve their numeracy goals and make good progress.

We are seeking a qualified maths and numeracy tutor to deliver a range of part-time accredited and non-accredited classes at our learning centres and online.

Teaching assignments will include daytimes, weekends and evenings so flexibility is essential.

We use MS Teams to deliver online and hybrid teaching as well as in day-to-day communications with staff.

Essential requirements for applicants are:

  • A teaching qualification e.g., Award, Certificate or Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent
  • A level 3 or higher qualification in maths
  • Level 2 English and maths qualifications e.g., GCSE at Grade C or 4 or equivalent
  • At least 2 years' experience of teaching or training
  • Experience of using MS Teams

Tutors are expected to adhere to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers developed by the Education and Training Foundation.

Details of knowledge/skills/experience for the role can be found on the job description/person specification.
