What will I be doing?

The development of Inclusion Somerset within Children's services is continuing to restructure the Statutory SEND Team as we continue to improve our service to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).


As a senior member of the Statutory SEND team, the role is to ensure that children and young people who have SEND in Somerset have their needs met in a holistic way within their local communities and live the lives that they want to lead, whilst working in partnership with educational, health and social care services.

Further posts are available due to the development and expansion of the team. We're working to improve the lives of children in Somerset - and you'll be a key part of that.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Working closely with families and young people and educational settings to determine support and provision for children and young people with an Education Health and Care Plan
  • Monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of this provision and liaise with wider stakeholders to ensure provision is being delivered
  • Supporting the improvement of the quality of Education Health and Care plans
  • Working closely with families to resolve disputes
  • Provide leadership and support to other members of the team

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

But it will really help if you:

  • Have strong communication skills these are paramount with a desire to work hard to support families
  • Have good problemsolving skills and leadership qualities.
  • Have strong IT skill
  • Have experience of managing a busy caseload and/or of managing staff, working to strict timeframes and excellent organisation skills are essential
  • Have a positive mindset

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council.

The salary for the role is Grade 10, ranging £32,909 t0 £37,261 per annum.
