£91,474 - £121,548 plus Distant Islands Allowance pro rata per annum

Would you enjoy the challenge of being an Anaesthetist with time to deliver personalised care from our state-of-the-art hospital that was opened in June 2019?


We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a passion for high quality, patient-centred care, and a desire to help develop our medical service to best meet the needs of the vibrant Orkney community (population 22,000).

Team working is crucial to the effective delivery of care and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

NHS Scotland is a collaborative organisation, and you will be supported to undertake this highly rewarding work by colleagues from across Scotland, including colleagues in NHS Grampian and our national emergency retrieval teams.

You should possess strong general skills in modern anaesthesia practice and the posts come with appropriate study leave and the possibility of spending time in larger centres to maintain and develop skills.

The islands have excellent schools, leisure facilities and a wide range of activities (currently restricted by the pandemic) including sport (Orkney is planning to host the Islands Games in 2025) music, art, drama; with a range of festivals spread across the year.
