Principal Instrumentation and Control Designer


As a Principal Instrumentation and Control Designer, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading the design and development of instrumentation and control systems for various engineering projects.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and efficiency of complex systems in industries such as manufacturing, energy, oil and gas, and others.

Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding a team of designers and engineers to deliver high-quality solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.


You'll be:


  • Lead the design and development of instrumentation and control systems for engineering projects from concept to completion.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in the selection of instrumentation components, control systems, and related equipment.
  • Develop detailed engineering designs, specifications, and documentation for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Review and approve design drawings, diagrams, and schematics created by the design team to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate the performance and reliability of proposed instrumentation and control solutions.
  • Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings, and presentations to communicate project status, issues, and recommendations.
  • Mentor and coach junior designers and engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering their professional development.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in instrumentation and control design.

You'll have:


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in the design and development of instrumentation and control systems, preferably in industries such as manufacturing, energy, or oil and gas.
  • Indepth knowledge of instrumentation principles, control systems, PLC programming, HMI design, and related technologies.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISA, ANSI, NEC).
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable but not required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and client locations, as needed.
