GMP Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of our client located in Manchester, for an experienced Technical Buyer to join their well-known, highly successful and rapidly growing organisation.


Our client is a lead provider of HVAC Solutions within the engineering services sector across a wide scope of industries, all across the world.

This is a full time, permanent position: Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 4pm & Friday 7:00am till 12:30pm

You will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing of technical goods and services for the organization.

You will have a detailed knowledge of the equipment, materials and supplies used in all of the organization's projects and be able to identify companies that sell them.

You would ensure material and services are purchased and delivered to specification, on-time, and within budget.

This position is located in Manchester, with possible travel outside of the UK.


Technical Buyer main duties:

  • Day to day activities of purchasing and procurement as per RMI UK requirements including expediating of purchase orders and sourcing alternative products in line with production demand.
  • Liaising with the global purchasing team to ensure strategic business goals and department objectives are met.
  • Close collaboration with the global quality departments to ensure the number of nonconformances and the impact on the business are kept to a minimum.
  • Conduct supplier audits and risk assessment studies to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Maintain and manage the existing supplier risk assessment and audit programme along with a review of each supplier's capacity and capabilities.
  • Implement key performance indicators, agreeing targets with suppliers, measure and report on their performance.
  • Develop longterm relationships with global suppliers and implement value added process.
  • Manage contracts, annual supply agreements and ensure service level agreements are maintained.
  • Analyse suppliers and products sourced by the global procurement team and implement best practice to handle routine purchases.
  • Work closely with Technical and Engineering teams to provide analytical support for projects, new business opportunities and cost reduction through resourcing or redesign initiatives.
  • Achieve cost savings with the identification of alternative source of supply, product, specification or modification, or better negotiation and forward planning.
  • Analyse movement of goods through the supply chain and work with global team to identify most cost effective route.
  • Prepare and distribute reports to key stakeholders that analyse supplier quality and delivery performance, with emphasis on improving the poor performing suppliers

Technical Buyer desired skills and experience:

  • University Degree or equivalent.
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) preferable
  • 5 or more years' experience working in manufacturing and engineering procurement environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement activities and general practices
  • Experience in supplier relationship and performance management and negotiation.
  • Creative problemsolving skills, conflict management within different organizations
- (centralized and matrix organizational structures)

  • Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thoughtout recommendations.
  • Selfdirected with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.
  • Experience in the use of SAP or ERP system and processes.


For all the above requirements the successful Technical Buyer will receive a competitive salary of 50,000 per annum based on experience.
