Description

We wish to appoint new Consultant colleague to join our expanding Trauma and Orthopaedic service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT).

This is a post to augment our current service with a view to starting immediately (negotiable).

The appointee will complement and develop the lower limb surgery service including an enhanced recovery pathway for primary hip and knee arthroplasty.

As well as a commitment to developing the trauma service, the post holder will be expected to have further sub specialty skills in revision arthroplasty including management of periprosthetic fractures.

The post holder will work at both Gloucester Royal Hospital and at Cheltenham General Hospital to provide services across the county.

This is a full-time post, with a 10 PA job plan (negotiable to 12 PAs).

Core to this post is working in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.

So integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives:

  • To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust

Clinical Responsibilities
We expect the post-holder to develop and lead a robust service in order to provide high quality care to frail older patients in a timely manner:

  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirement and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's service plans

Specific Aims of the post


The appointment of the post has three main aims:

  • To join a team that provides comprehensive consultant-based patient-centred management
  • To participate in the Trauma Surgery oncall rota at Gloucester Royal Hospital
  • To strengthen and develop the Lower Limb service
