Job description:

  • The UK is charting a course to net zero emissions by 2050, boosting jobs, reducing our need for fossil fuels and securing our position as a world leader in low carbon generation.
The Government enshrined the world's most ambitious climate change target into law in 2021:
to reduce emissions by 78% by 2035 when compared to 1990 levels.

Delivering this ambition is not going to be possible without renewable electricity, and these roles offer an exciting opportunity to be a part of this journey.

The Established and Marine Renewables team is responsible for a range of renewable technologies, including onshore wind and solar, as well as specialising in wind turbine interference with Radar systems.

We are looking to recruit for two exciting roles:

  • Senior Policy Adviser, Onshore Wind
  • Senior Policy Adviser, Offshore Wind Radar Mitigation

Our work focuses on ensuring that we get the levels of deployment we need to reach our Net Zero ambitions whilst also minimising the costs to businesses and consumers.

We work to remove the barriers to deployment, assess supply chains to boost UK competitiveness, and design policies to protect consumers and communities.

The team ensures these policy areas are promoted, clarified, and supported across Government and industry.

We help to facilitate effective working between the public, companies, BEIS and the wider Government, and other key partners, overcoming challenges and providing advice and input into policy proposals.

We find ways to address difficult problems; make policy work effectively and efficiently, and build key and trusted relationships.

Person specification:

These exciting and demanding posts are rich and varied and, in supporting Government policy on renewable electricity, are topical, sensitive, and involve working on policies that attract national media and senior political attention.

Both of the roles connect broadly with strategic energy and decarbonisation policy and the evolving Net Zero Strategy.

The roles centre on the development of analytical and policy approaches to maximise opportunity in these policy areas. The roles will also intersect with other areas of departmental and governmental policy.

The post holders will therefore need to be able to build a sound evidence base through engagement with key partners, both inside BEIS (such as with analysts and lawyers) but also across Government and externally with industry and trade associations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Using interpersonal skills to involve partners in policy analysis and formulation;
  • Facilitating independent research and analysing complex information to provide evidencebased policy advice;
  • Take ownership of complicated policy issues, taking initiative to move work forward;
  • Performing secretariat functions, planning for crossgovernment boards and working with key partners, writing agendas, minutes and keeping actions logs to ensure the delivery of crossgovernment policies;
  • Preparing, checking and advising on correspondence, Parliamentary Questions, Freedom of Information requests, and responses to other ad hoc requests to help deliver Ministerial communications;
  • Drafting bri
