Nursery Horticultural Operations Manager

£40,000 - £45,000 per annum

Runcton

Permanent

7:00 am - 4:00 pm, 1 hr break


Kiwi Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership once again with our long-standing client, who have a wonderful opportunity to join their team as a Nursery Horticultural Operations Manager.


The purpose of this role will be to effectively manage our client's horticultural operations, including labour, capacity, budgets and quality of their products.

Plant health and the quality of our client's end product will be at the forefront of everythingyou do.

You are to use your expertise in horticulture to ensure plant losses are mínimal and that targets are met, within budget.

Our client's premises are always to be maintained in a neat, orderly fashion.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Overall ownership and responsibility for the site, the team and its product.
  • To manage plant health ensuring mínimal plant losses, using knowledge to identify any issues before they arise.
  • Team management, to ensure all projects are completed on time and to the acceptable standard.
  • Ensure there are no stock shortfalls (plants, materials or stock take items).
  • Ensure the health and safety of the team and site.
  • Responsible for stock management.
  • Ensure the site capacity is monitored and shortfalls or surplus managed.
  • Managing staff levels effectively, to meet budgets and targets.
  • Recruitment for staff and seasonal labour, as and when required.
  • Continually improving the efficiency of the growing process.
  • Liaising with internal teams to ensure all departments needs are met.
  • Keeping the site in a clean, ordered fashion.
  • Line managing staff, yearly appraisals, training needs and disciplinary matters.
  • To have a tight knit happy team and strong team ethos.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Formal horticultural qualification.
  • 3+ years' ornamental production management.
  • 3+ years' managing and implementing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
  • Proven experience in team building.
  • Good working knowledge of irrigation systems and potting machines.
  • Organised and sympathetic nature.
  • Thrives on problem solving and thinking on your feet.
  • A handson leader that will lead by example.
  • Good problem solver with a positive cando attitude.
  • Team player who will go the extra mile.
Desirable

  • PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Forklift licence.
  • 2+ years in dispatch.
