Our client, a high end soft furnishings brand based in Northumberland, are looking for a Product Developer to join their Product Development Team.

As Product Developer, this role is to transform market insights in to actionable and exciting product, managing development process to deliver category leading product ranges in line with require timescales and margin targets.

The role with work with networksof suppliers; both mills and CMT facilities.


Role & Responsibilities:


  • To oversee all areas of product development from initial concept, sourcing opportunities and in house prototypes, through to delivery and checking of product in warehouse.
  • Be the go to person for information about products and their development.
  • Manage the development of multiple products simultaneously, dealing with overlapping timelines and multiple vendors.
  • Understand CMT manufacturing, processes and solutions.
  • Build strong working relationships with suppliers.
  • Influencing margin through product development.
  • Develop indicative pricing early in the development process, negotiating prices with manufacturers and fabric suppliers.
  • Recommending best manufacturers for products based on capacity, pricing, speed and quality of delivery.
  • Packaging specifications; understanding packing of goods from factory and packing of finished items from warehouse.
  • Manage the gold seal preproduction process.
  • Understand cost of duties and freight for shipping orders.
  • Manage costs in the development process, materials for sampling, freight, etc.
  • Support the department head in delivering the company product strategy.
  • Be a key part of supporting the expansion of the supply base.
  • Understand the geopolitical factors that might affect manufacturing and delivery.
  • Manage and source suitable fabric options to meet the requirement of briefs.
  • Input to new product ideas pointing out any considerations, opportunities and potential limitations.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of testing requirements for furniture and / or soft furnishings.

Skills & Experience:


  • At least 3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience working within a têxtile product development or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with suppliers in the Far East, South East Asia and Europe.
  • Must be a confident, well organised self starter.
  • All round understanding and experience of the product development process.
  • Proven experience of developing consumer products to the point of manufacture, ideally with a background in homewares, furniture or fashion.
