As a Waste Officer you will play a critical part of driving forward the Council's strategic priorities of maximising waste avoidance, recycling and composting and reducing waste to landfill, you will be involved in waste minimisation and recycling initiatives, promoting awareness of environmental and waste management issues to the community.


The key duties relate to the day-to-day frontline monitoring of the waste contracts and associated waste services, predominantly (but not limited to) refuse and recycling collections and street cleansing and litter collection.


You will be responsible for handling queries and complaints, as well as resolving service issues (such as waste collection issues, littering etc.) within a designated area of West Berkshire.


You should be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the principle issues relating to waste management and hold GCSE grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.


Essential skills and abilities include:
- excellent verbal and written communication skills,
- good problem solving skills ,
- effective management of your own workload, and
- ability to form effective working relationships both within the council and with external groups or organisations.
