Our Acute Medical Unit (AMU) on OSLER Ward at Basildon Hospital is looking for a dynamic Department Assistant who is able to deal diversity of people at levels ranging from medical and nursing to patients and relatives.


You will be required to be friendly, sympathetic and approachable to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy, ever changing environment, able to cope with emotionally stressful situations, be clean and tidy, to be physically Fit as this role involves Manual Handling and much physical Exertion and Occupational Health Clearance and to work all the shifts given, long days and nights including bank holidays.


Your role will involve facilitating a clean and safe ward environment, liaising with the Ward Manager/nurse in charge to identify and undertake all non clinical tasks, to establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and environment for patients, visitors and staff and working closely with the Infection Control team in carrying out ward audits.

You will assist in the implementation and monitoring of the patient care by Recording, monitoring and reporting changes in the patients condition during transfer of patients between wards and departments, collection/delivery of specimens from our department to the Path Lab, collection of bloods products from the blood bank and collection of drugs from wards/departments and deliver to the requested areas.

You will also undertake light domestic duties as necessary eg. bed making, general cleaning of clinical areas and stocking up of oxygen masks/suction equipment.
