Testimony
- 'The MIR is not just a 'back-room function' but a vital cog in the investigative machine._
- My role as a Receiver is a key role within the Major Incident Room (MIR). I have to maintain my CPD across a wide range of competencies to make sure I have the necessary investigative skills and mindset to undertake the role. I see all the documentation that is submitted to the MIR and I have to possess the confidence to question all elements of an investigation including the decisions being made by the wider team. Personal resilience is another crucial element of my role at times in an investigation there is a vast amount of information to be assessed, often against fixed short deadlines. I have to maintain a high level of attention to detail whilst moving between totally unconnected lines of enquiry and documents within the investigation._
- I have to interpret and communicate effectively and provide clear direction as to how the HOLMES account is structured, thus creating a usable, researchable database that the SIO can rely on to assist with their decision making, direction and ultimate control of the course of an inquiry._
- Ultimately this is a demanding role but the personal satisfaction in knowing I have done a good job is second to none.' _
