Role Purpose:
To provide Machinery Safety Expertise and Services to fee paying clients.
What the role involves
- Provide Machinery Safety services to fee paying and internal customers, including: PUWER Assessment of Machinery including the assessment of the additional 'Lifting Equipment' requirements within LOLER when applicable.
- Ensure Independence and Impartiality for all projects assigned to yourself and declare to the Technical Manager when any instances where a conflict of interest arises.
- Keep up to date with developments in standards and legislation affecting Machinery Safety and support change as required.
- Provide impartial and independent Condition Assessments of machinery to enable duty holders to make informed decisions regarding the management of machinery safety.
- Operate in compliance with BV Core Values and Code of Ethics.
- Delivery against key personal objectives.
- Provide / Witness Inspection and Testing of Machinery as part of a conformity assessment under the guidance and control of the Level 3 Machinery Safety Specialist.
- Proactively work in line with ES Procedures.
- Engage with clients to assist in drawing up the scope of technical deliverables for commercial contracts.
- Perform audits of managerial systems for PUWER and LOLER regulatory compliance
- Provide Machinery Consultancy services to fee paying clients, including: prepurchase assessments to endure that machinery meets the required regulatory requirements of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, including identifying any concerns with regards to machinery conformity against the Essential Health and Safety Requirements.
Experience and skills required
- Auditing engineering management systems.
- Testing and inspection of machinery to ensure safety (FAT, SAT and deterioration monitoring inspections)
- Knowledgeable in machinery life management schemes and condition assessments.
- A good understanding of the inspection and maintenance requirements of machinery, plant, installations and their systems.
- Understanding of machinery prepurchase assessments.
- A good understanding of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
- Machinery conformity for UKCA / CE.
- Machinery failure mode and life cycle trend analysis.
- Comfortable providing technical and regulatory training.
- Excellent communication, analytical, numeracy, literacy and IT skills
- Travel domestically and on occasion, internationally.
- Ability to be security cleared to SC level
- Ability to become a Classified Worker for Radiological Environments
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum HNC / NVQ Level 4 equivalent in a mechanical / electrical engineering field.
- Professionally Registered Engineering Technician, working towards Incorporated Engineer
- Full UK Driver's license
